Donate blood and help maintain a stable blood supply. Every day the Red Cross must collect more than 13,000 pints of blood for patients across the country. Encourage family and friends to join you in donating at the Church Street United Methodist Church on August 29, 2018 from 12:30 to 5:30 PM at Windham Hall, in Selma, AL. A pint of blood from you could be a gift of life for someone in need. The American Red Cross is the primary blood supplier for Vaughan Regional Hospital in Selma, AL, UAB Hospital, and Children’s Hospital of Birmingham, AL.
Reasons to donate blood:
- There’s no substitute for blood. When a patient receives blood, it is given in advance by a donor.
- 1 donation can potentially save up to 3 lives.
- Approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S.
- According to the American Cancer Society, about 1.7 million people were expected to be diagnosed with cancer in 2017. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment.
